First Top Loading Arm in 1938

Our company was founded by John A. Savage in 1938. John Savage worked in the petroleum industry, and with Robert Wheaton Sr., founder of Wheaton Brass Company, now known as emco Wheaton, assisted in developing the first top loading arm. This was done to replace canvas hose being used to load trucks.

1930's

Development of Aircraft Underwing Refueling in 1944

In 1944, Savage was actively involved with the first design for under wing refueling. Since then, testing has been conducted with the United States Air Force and Navy. This has lead to approval by AFSSEA and NAVAIR for hot refueling pantograph loading systems.

First Bottom Loading Facility

In 1948, Savage designed and installed the first bottom loading facility (200 gpm) in the world at a Shell Oil plant in Indiana.

First Spring Loaded Valve for Top Loading Loading Arms

During the later part of the 1940's Savage developed the first spring loaded control valve for the undercarriage of liquid transports to the control the flow of product in an emergency situation. This technology was incorporated into the first top loading, spring loaded valve for use on loading arms for then Wheaton Brass Company.

1940's

Developed Hydraulic Control Valves

In 1951, Savage worked with Ralph Brodie, owner of Ralph M. Brodie Company, now incorporated as part of Brodie Instrument Inc., on hydraulic control valves. Today this technology is used at every gasoline bottom loading facility.

Increased Product Flows from 250-gpm to 700 gpm

During the 1950's Savage lead industry efforts to increase product flows from 250 gpm to flow rates in excess of 700 gpm.

1950's

Evolves into Engineering Support Company

During the period from 1960 to 1975, the company evolved into an engineering support company serving the petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and food industries.

1960's

Manufactured Grounding Devices

The company manufactured one of the three major electronic grounding devices (STS- 300-G2) in the world.

Sold First EPA Approved Vapor Recovery System

In 1976, Brian Savage, the son of John Savage, worked with James McGill, president of McGill Environmental Inc. to supply the first carbon adsorption/absorption gasoline recovery system to the Phillips Oil Co., and the gasoline marketing terminal industry. Prior to this period, refrigeration technology was used. For the next six years, the company was the leader in the marketing of the carbon gasoline vapor recovery technology, which is now the standard to the industry worldwide.

1970's

Emco Wheaton Leading Loading Arm Distributor

In 1980, the company became the leading loading arm distributor for Emco Wheaton Inc. in the western hemisphere. Companies acknowledged the leadership role the Savage Family was taking and are currently being represented. These companies include; Gorman Rupp Pump Company, Liquid Controls Meter, Cla Val Company, Green Manufacturing and Emco Wheaton DTM. The company was awarded a license from Emco Wheaton to design and build special pantograph refueling arms for the military worldwide.

1980's

Petro Chem Technologies Expands Scope

In 1997, Brian Savage and Greg Savage, expanded Petro Chem Technologies, marketing to worldwide efforts for its scope of supply. Projects in Korea, Oman, Egypt, Uganda, and Venezuela lead the way.

1990's
